Tulle: Bringing back the princess in you

The Prelude:

Growing up, if it was pink (esp. Barbie), sparkly and/or poofy, then I was there. So naturally I thought of any outfit or excuse that would get me into something with tulle. Ballet was one of those excuses. It required a pink tutu and that was all that mattered. The actual ‘balleting’ was just a means to an end.

In addition to ballet, all of my favourite dresses also had a tulle underskirt (petticoat), as they always made me feel like a princess.

Whenever my parents would have a dinner party, I would always insist on wearing one of these dresses. Upon the arrival of our esteemed guests I would proceed to lift up the top layer of my dress to show the pretty tulle that was 'hiding'. While on some levels I wish this was some sort of exaggeration, it is not. I did do this. I fundamentally didn’t understand why you had to cover the tulle. In my mind it made no sense.

Fast forward 20-something years and FINALLY everyone else got on the bandwagon with me. Tulle has come out from all of the dresses it has been hiding under and taken the designer and high-street fashion world by storm (a bit dramatic, but you get it). One collection that comes to mind is the Giambattista Valli X H&M collaboration. Worn by celebrities, influencers, and maybe even your next door neighbour, this collection is filled with tulle dresses that will bring out the little princess in everyone.

The Point :

Tulle can dress up up any outfit. We all know this. To me, tulle is more than that. It is something that makes me feel special, like a little princess who can conquer the world.

Here are some of my favourite tulle-items that are sure to bring back your little inner princess:

Happy Trotting!
